Jesus Does Not Reject Anyone and Neither Do We!

02/26/2016

St. Paul United Church of Christ is the ONLY officially open and affirming (welcomes all, including LGBT people, at all levels of church life) mainline Christian church within 150 miles and there isn’t one unapologetically liberal Christian congregation in Corpus Christi.

St. Paul’s greatest challenge is creating much higher visibility in the community. We are embracing doing ministry in new and different ways.

Pastor Burton told the search committee in 2014 that if they liked the way things were and wanted the worship and ministry of the church to stay the same, then he was not the candidate for them, but if they were open to doing ministry in new and different ways, then he would be a good choice for them.

The lay leadership of the church has completely embraced transformation and is remarkably open.

Outreach efforts have begun at Texas A&M with results evident and Wednesday night “Caring for God’s Creation” sessions on environmental protection have also begun. We are about to ordain a 20 year old Texas A&M new member as a deacon.

. With approximately 450,000 in the metropolitan area, 14,000 students in a community college (Del Mar) and a public university (Texas A&M) of over 12,000, there is a great deal of low-hanging fruit for our unapologetically liberal Christian church to harvest.

For the first time in over a decade, St. Paul has an active Children’s Ministry with children participating regularly in worship singing and reading.

We are doing more regular hands-on ministry (i.e., feedng the homeless, beach cleanups, starting a Girl Scout Troop for the community and other ministries).

Pastor Burton is only paid to work part-time and we hope to move him to full-time as well as add a youth pastor with these matched funds.

Please help us reach Corpus Christi with God's message of unconditional love and welcome!

From Mr. Jim Murphy:
1. “This is the first time I have been able to really be honest at church about my relationship with my partner, soon to be husband.”
2. “Being with loving people that accept you for who you are and allow you to share.”
3. “Learning what the Bible really says!”
4. “Best of all having a great, wonderful and loving Pastor who is there for us.”

From Mr. Glenn Martin:
1. "First and for most I feel comfortable to be there with my life partner and that it is known that we are a couple."
2. "I feel that there is a need to be filled, with my presence, to show that I am capable to do the same things that other men do and not be stereotyped due to my sexual preference. This can be an example for others, both gay and heterosexual."
3. "I feel that with the new pastoral guidance of the congregation of St. Paul UCC of Corpus Christi, we will be a church to reach out to the community, wherever possible, and have a positive effect for the community and the growth of the church."
